The bright sides of solar panels
According to the UN, energy is the largest contributor to climate change, through the emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. At Fjordkraft we therefore believe it is important to give customers the opportunity to produce their very own clean energy.
Renewable energy is the solution if we are to succeed in stopping climate change, which is one of the UN's sustainability goals.
Fjordkraft contributes to achieving these goals in several ways. Since 2018, we have given customers the opportunity to produce their own clean and sustainable solar power.
- We see that interest in solar cells in the market has grown tremendously in recent years. More and more customers want to produce electricity themselves. It is important for Fjordkraft that we help our customers make sustainable choices and help accelerate the green shift to reach the UN's sustainability goals, says Christian Kalvenes, Executive Director at Fjordkraft.
Suitable conditions in Norway
Solar power has been common in southern Europe for some time. But even with our closest neighbour, Sweden, solar panels are far more common than they have been in Norway upto now. A common misconception is that the Norwegian climate is not suitable for solar power production.
- In Norway, conditions for efficient solar production are good. A lot of light and not too high temperatures are ideal for the solar cells, Kalvenes explains.
But of course, during the darker winter months, production is low. That's why Fjordkraft have found a solution that enables the customer to benefit from their solar panels throughout the year.
- We have launched a service called "Solkonto". Here our customers are able to store any surplus electricity produced during summer on a private solar account, saving it for later use, typically when electricity prices are higher during the winter months. With this service, we want to make purchasing solar panels even more profitable and attractive to our customers, Kalvenes says.
Solar panels provide green and emission-free electricity. The environmental benefits will be visible after two years.
Every little helps
You are entitled to financial support from Enova to install solar panels. Please go to www.enova.no for further details.
Within the Fjordkraft company, TrøndelagKraft was the first brand to offer customers solar panels, but from April 2019 we have also been able to offer this through Fjordkraft.
Those who have solar panels don’t pay for the electricity or line rental for the electricity they produce themselves. Surplus electricity from the meter is automatically sent out via the power lines to other houses connected to the same lines.
We know that each panel reduces emissions equivalent to 2 500 km of driving. As we fight to reach the sustainability goals, it’s true that every little helps. The more sources we have of renewable energy, the lower the requirement of polluting sources of kWh energy.
